£1 million saved for Merseyside!

September 5, 2016

Make sure you’re a part of the Merseyside Collective Switch

The Merseyside Collective Switch has saved local people in excess of £1million on their energy bills through switching to a cheaper energy tariff.

The next round launches today. Residents will need to register before midnight on the 16th October in order to access the exclusive collective switch offers tariffs.

Organised by local charity, Energy Projects Plus, in partnership with six Merseyside local authorities, the Merseyside Collective Switch was set up in 2013 to help local people to save money on their energy bills.

Collective switching works by asking people to register their interest then uses collective buying power to negotiate exclusive tariffs from energy suppliers.

To date, the scheme has delivered six rounds of collective switching. The last collective was the biggest yet, with over 7,000 people taking part and average savings of £311 a year.

Exclusive, market beating tariffs were negotiated for Merseyside residents including a fixed tariff from E.on, an offer for ‘payment on receipt of bill’ customers and a special deal for prepayment meter customers. Previous rounds of the switch have attracted exclusive offers from both the large and smaller suppliers, including British Gas, E.on, and Ovo.

In addition to the Collective Switch offer, participants are welcome to switch to any tariff on the market to find the deal that’s right for them, with tariffs shown against each other for comparison.

The scheme aims to make it easier and safer to switch supplier, and advisors are on hand to offer free and impartial help every step of the way.

It’s free to join, and there is no obligation to switch once the offers are released.

Mr David Bailey registered for the last round of the Collective Switch on behalf of his 87 year old Mother, Margaret, who saved £1,067 through switching.

He said “I’m thrilled with the big savings made for my mother and think it’s great we are coming together as a community to get a cheaper deal on our energy bills. It was so simple and quick to do, I would recommend it to anyone.’’

Mr Bailey

Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson said: “The Merseyside Collective Switch is a great scheme that is putting money back into the pockets of local people. We are thrilled to have reached this milestone figure of £1 million collectively saved so far. It demonstrates that by joining together, we can get a fairer deal from energy providers. I hope many more people join this round. If just 1 in 10 of you joined us we could have over £20m staying in local people’s pockets.”

Ellie Abernethy has managed the project since its launch three years ago. She said “One of the main aims of the Collective Switch is to make switching easier, especially for people who are nervous about switching, and those who don’t have internet access and can’t compare prices online. If you haven’t switched for more than 12 months, you may be on your supplier’s most expensive tariff. Even if you are a regular switcher, our winning tariffs are often market beating and therefore cheaper than you can find elsewhere. I hope everyone registers to find out how much they could save”.

In order to access the collective switch offers, residents must register before midnight on Sunday 16th October.

Exclusive Energy Deals from Merseyside Collective Switch

February 25, 2016

Offers are now in for the Merseyside Collective Switch and organisers are pleased to announce they have negotiated exclusive, market beating offers on behalf of Merseyside residents.

Over 7,000 local people have taken part in this round of the Merseyside Collective Switch to get a better deal on their energy bills, which has led to a range of attractive offers being secured from energy suppliers.

The winning tariff is from E.on with a 1 year fixed monthly direct debit at the average annual cost of £770. This exclusive market beating deal has average savings of £350 per household. E.on have also offered exclusive market beating tariffs for Economy 7 and Pay on Receipt of Bill customers. Deals have also been secured for prepayment customers with an offer from OVO Energy, and we are thrilled to have a winning Green Energy deal from OVO Energy.

The offers are available as part of a full market comparison, so householders can see how much they could save and choose the tariff that is best for them. The scheme’s switching partner, energyhelpline, are on hand to make the switching process easy.

The scheme is organised by local charity, Energy Projects Plus, together with the six Merseyside local authorities and Viridis. It aims to reduce people’s energy bills through negotiating cheaper tariffs from energy suppliers and making it easier for people to switch.

Switching levels are currently at their highest levels for four years, according to Ofgem. The Merseyside Collective Switch is proud to have been a part of movement to make switching easier, saving Merseyside residents over £760,000 off their fuel bills since its launch in 2013.

The offers are only available until Monday 14th March so if you have registered for this round or any of our previous switching rounds, don’t delay switch today.

Merseyside residents can be proactive about fuel prices

January 14, 2016

Wholesale gas and electricity prices have hit a five-year low, according to the latest research. This fall has not been reflected in domestic energy prices.

The Merseyside Collective Switch, delivered by local charity Energy Projects Plus, together with the six Merseyside local authorities, is providing an opportunity for local people to come together and request a better tariff from suppliers.

According to market information provider, ICIS, wholesale energy prices hit a five-year low at the end of 2015. The causes were a mild winter and lower global commodity prices. Although British Gas cut their prices by 5% in August, the other big five energy suppliers did not follow suit.

Many of us are paying over the odds for our gas and electricity, yet Ofgem research shows that over 60% of us don’t recall switching supplier.

The average saving for those who have switched through the Merseyside Collective Switch is £214 a year.

Collective switching works by asking people to register their interest then uses collective buying power to negotiate an exclusive tariff from energy suppliers. The exclusive tariff is only available to those who register for the collective switch. Previous rounds of the switch have attracted exclusive offers from both the large and smaller suppliers and some tariffs have been the best on the market.

In addition to the Collective Switch offer tariff, participants are welcome to switch to any tariff on the market to find the deal that’s right for them, with tariffs shown against each other for comparison.

The scheme aims to make it easier to switch supplier, with additional support available to those who haven’t switched for a while.

Peter Owen, Chief Executive of Energy Projects Plus said “As we hit the colder months, and our energy use increases, now is a great time to check if we are on the tariff best for us. The Collective Switch has been created to make checking as simple and straightforward as possible, with support available at all stages. I would encourage everyone to join in and see how much they could save.”

Over 150,000 households have taken part in the Merseyside Collective Switch so far, and over £760,000 has been saved collectively by those who switched.

Residents are invited to register their interest in the Collective Switch by Sunday 14th February in order to receive information about the exclusive tariffs. It’s free to join, and there is no obligation to switch once the offers are released.

To join the Merseyside Collective Switch simply register online at www.LCRenergyswitch.co.uk or call the local Save Energy Advice Line on Freephone 0800 043 0151, where free and impartial help and advice about saving energy at home is also available.

Happy Switchers

September 23, 2015

As we enter autumn winter fuel bills can become a worry for many Merseyside residents, with many having to make sacrifices in order to pay their energy bills. Last week Energy Projects Plus visited Mrs Dorothy Spencer, a Magenta tenant who was kind enough to share her experiences of taking part in the last Merseyside Collective Switch.

Following an accident which left Dorothy wheelchair bound she was struggling to balance paying for her carer and keeping herself warm in her home. She became aware of the switch through her carer and found it quick, easy and worthwhile.

Ms Spencer said ”I was so made up when I switched, the savings were brilliant. With all the cuts I was worrying where to save money, the savings have covered the cuts I had.”

A new round of collective switching is being launched for Merseyside. Householders are invited to be a part of it and see how much they could save on their energy bills.

The Switch Together, Save Together scheme is organised by local charity, Energy Projects Plus, alongside the six Merseyside local authorities.

The last Merseyside Collective Switch took place in September and saved residents an average of £203 a year, with one resident saving £825 a year and many saving over £500.

Collective switching works by asking people to register their interest, then using collective buying power to negotiate an exclusive tariff from energy suppliers. The exclusive tariff is only available to those who register for the collective switch.

Previous rounds of the Merseyside Collective Switch have attracted exclusive offers from E.on, British Gas, Npower, Scottish Power, The Co-operative Energy and Good Energy and have included tariffs for direct debit, payment on receipt of bill and prepayment customers. The last two collectives have included deals that were the cheapest on the market and only available to those who registered.

The winning tariffs are shown against other tariffs on the market, so householders can clearly see if it’s a good deal for them. They can switch to any of these tariffs through the scheme. If they don’t find a better tariff they don’t have to switch, there’s no obligation. The scheme aims to make it safer and easier to switch supplier, and expert advisors are on hand to offer free and impartial help every step of the way.

Mr Martin Doughty from Moreton, Wirral took part in the collective switch and saved £677 a year on his energy bills. He said, “I would definitely recommend the collective switch to others. It only took a few minutes to register, the information about the tariffs was clear and switching was quick and easy. I’m really glad that I took part because the savings are so great! If you’re not sure about switching or haven’t switched for a while, this is a good way to do it.”

So far, over £424,000 has been saved by Merseyside householders switching their tariff through the Merseyside Collective Switch.

Ellie Abernethy, Project Manager of the scheme at Energy Projects Plus said “We’re all feeling the pinch at this time of year, and the rising cost of energy can be a real strain on household budgets. This is a great opportunity for the people of Merseyside to join together and collectively benefit from reduced energy bills. This collective switch hopes to be the biggest yet, and we’re aiming to get some great deals for the people of Merseyside. It’s free and easy to join, we’ll let you know how much you could save before you switch and there’s no obligation to switch if you decide not to. There’s nothing to lose. I would encourage everyone to join in and see how much they could save by switching.”

The offers will be announced on 2nd March and you need to register before then in order to find out about the exclusive deals.

You can join the collective switch at www.LCRenergyswitch.co.uk or by calling the local Save Energy Advice Line on freephone 0800 043 0151, where residents can also get free and impartial help and advice about saving energy at home.
